At Folawns, we offer some of the worlds’ leading brands of facial injections to improve the appearance of your skin. Botox uses a form of botulinum toxin to temporarily paralyze muscle activity. Botox injections are the perfect form of treatment to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and crow’s feet in adults.

We invite you to schedule a consultation with one of our injectors to determine how many units you would need.

Understanding Neurotoxins: Dysport and Botox

At Folawn’s Medical Spa and Salon, we offer top-of-the-line neurotoxin treatments to help you achieve a youthful, refreshed appearance. Among the most popular options are Dysport and Botox. While both are effective at reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, understanding the differences between them can help you make an informed decision about which treatment is right for you.

What are Neurotoxins?

Neurotoxins are injectable treatments used to temporarily reduce or eliminate facial wrinkles by relaxing the underlying muscles. Both Dysport and Botox work by blocking the nerve signals that cause muscles to contract, which smooths out the skin above those muscles. These treatments are particularly effective for dynamic wrinkles—those that form from repetitive facial movements like frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows.

Botox: The Classic Choice

Botox, or botulinum toxin type A, has been a leading choice in cosmetic treatments for decades. It is FDA-approved and widely recognized for its ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, particularly on the forehead, around the eyes (crow’s feet), and between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). Botox treatments typically last 3 to 4 months, with results visible within a few days after injection.

Key Benefits of Botox:

  • FDA-approved for multiple areas including forehead lines, crow’s feet, and glabellar lines.

  • Known for its precision and effectiveness in targeting specific areas.

  • Results typically last 3 to 4 months.

  • Widely available and extensively studied for safety and efficacy.

Dysport: The Spreading Solution

Dysport, also a form of botulinum toxin type A, is another effective neurotoxin treatment. It works similarly to Botox by relaxing the facial muscles to smooth out wrinkles. However, Dysport has a slightly different formulation that allows it to spread more easily over a larger area. This characteristic makes Dysport particularly effective for treating larger areas with fine lines and for patients who may need broader coverage. Results from Dysport typically appear slightly faster than Botox, often within 1 to 3 days, and can last around 3 to 4 months.

Key Benefits of Dysport:

  • Spreads more evenly, making it ideal for larger treatment areas.

  • Fast-acting, with results often visible within 1 to 3 days.

  • Effective for moderate to severe glabellar lines.

  • Results typically last 3 to 4 months.

Comparing Dysport and Botox

While both Dysport and Botox are highly effective neurotoxins, their unique properties may make one more suitable for your specific needs than the other:

  • Onset of Results: Dysport tends to show results a bit faster than Botox, which might be a consideration if you're looking for quicker improvements.

  • Spread and Coverage: Dysport’s ability to spread can be advantageous for larger areas or for those seeking a more generalized effect, while Botox’s precision is ideal for targeted areas.

  • Duration: Both treatments typically last 3 to 4 months, though individual results can vary.

Booking Appointments

When preparing for your neurotoxin appointment, keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • Avoid aspirin, Advil, Motrin, or fish oil 7 days before your injection.

  • Consult with your regular doctor before stopping any prescribed blood-thinning medications.

  • Refrain from alcohol 24 hours prior to and 24 hours after receiving Botox or Dysport.

  • You will not be able to lie down for 4 hours after injections, so schedule your appointment according to your sleep habits.

  • Do not book facial treatments or massages on the same day.

For any additional questions, please ask our staff.

After Your Injections

To ensure the best results and minimize side effects, follow these post-injection guidelines:

  • Remain upright for 4 hours post-injection. You may recline but refrain from lying flat.

  • Exaggerate facial expressions in the injected areas for 1 hour after injection.

  • Avoid wearing a headband or hat across your forehead if you had injections in that area.

  • Refrain from strenuous exercise for 24 hours following the injection. Walking or low-impact activities are fine.

  • Do not massage or manipulate the injected areas for 24 hours. Washing your face and applying makeup is acceptable, but avoid using a Clarisonic facial cleaner or booking a facial, placing your face in a massage cradle, or lying face down on a chiropractor’s chair.

  • Avoid taking ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oil supplements, or vitamin E for 24 hours post-injection.

  • If bruising occurs, apply ice to the area for 15 minutes to reduce it.

  • Headaches are a common side effect. You may use Tylenol, or if you have prescription headache medication, take it as directed by your doctor.

  • Botox will gradually take effect over 7-10 days, with full results visible within 2 weeks. If this is your first injection, we recommend a follow-up appointment in 2 weeks.
